Taixing Yuanlin University for elderly people was officially handed over to the local Civil Affairs Bureau at nine o’clock in the morning on 12th August 2014It is the third university for the elderly handed over to local government after the two universities  in Jingjiang and Jiangyin by Yuanlin Charitable Funds and it plans to recruit students in the Autumn of 2014.

The honorary Chairman of Charitable Funds, Mr. Ren Yuanlin; the Director General Mr.Jianguo Liu; the Director of CCP of Taizhou City , Mr Yaocan Sun, the Mayor of Taizhou City, Mr. Yulin Zhang and other officials attended this ceremony.

The total investment of Yuanlin Universityis RMB 40 million, and it covers an area of 5848 square meters. The building area is 7300 square meters including each newly built classroom of 6 levels and 4 levels, which is connected by winding corridor. Inside the university, there are 26 classrooms, 8 offices, 3 meeting rooms and 3 showrooms. The whole structure is highly symbolic which reflects new Chinese style and both returns and develops the spirit of traditional culture. It has 24 courses including literature and history, painting and calligraphy, photography, shadowboxing and so on, and it plans to take in 600 students. Until now, 1500 students have classes there and the number will be 2500 till 2015.

In addition, Jiangsu Yuanlin philanthropic foundation will hold a large-scale charitable activity named “Brightness Road- cure cataract to gain sight “, and it has gained cooperated support from government and hygiene department of Jiangyin, Jingjiang, Taixing City. This project will mainly benefit cataract patients living in the above three cities and enable them to take sight-recovering operations free of charge. The first project will help more than 10000 cataract patients in Jiangyin Jingjiang, Taixing. The foundation signed an official donation contract with Hygiene Department in Jiangyin on 28th August which means the recovery project is in its full swing.

Some elderly officers in Taixing wrote a poem for the chairman Yuanlin Ren to praise his great contributions to Chinese shipbuilding industry and his bravery to shoulder social responsibilities. The poem goes like this，Mr Ren is outstanding with the great reputation in shipbuilding industry, he has also set a monument for his generous donation, which makes the career in his 60s unforgettable.
